Maubuisson

For four years running every summer my brother Cory and I have spent a few weeks at the Abbaye de Maubuisson outside of Paris, where we have worked with director and writer Fabrice Macaux of the theater production company Corpus. Our job is to create and perform music and sound design for an original play. Here are some excerpts of the work we have done for these plays.
Grèves de fin

For this play I had the opportunity to use an old piano that was falling apart. I used it during the performances by hitting and scraping the strings, while sampling, granulating, and doing tons of fun Ableton and Max/MSP trickery. It was loads of fun. Unfortunately I didn’t get any really good recordings, but this should give a vague idea:

Pour un monde meilleur

This play involved my brother and I writing music for a 10 person choir, among other things. The performances were outside, and I controlled the sound from my laptop. Here is a time lapse video I did from my webcam, with a soundtrack composed of a bunch of the different sound elements from the play:
Here are two rough recordings of the choir we made in the abbey:

Mariage blanc

This play involved a very catchy recurring theme performed live with my brother playing guitar, while I sampled him and layered his guitar playing over beats:

L’art de rien
This was the first play we did. It veered from abstract sound design to hip hop and back again. Take a listen.
