The Road to Maker Faire Part 1

by Yann ~ May 22nd, 2009

Here’s a video showing off the first mini-wii-music-software I’ve made in celebration of going to the Maker Faire next week! It’s a simple beat looper that let’s use scratch, effect, and mess around while dancing around (and looking awesome, of course).

The plan is to have a bunch of little bits of software like this ready the Maker Faire, along with a bunch of wii remotes, so that groups of people can jam out together! I’ll be making more videos in the next few days showing them off, and I’ll be posting the software + Max patches on the site very soon as well! Phew! Very exciting stuff!

Wii LoopMachine at This happened…

by Yann ~ May 18th, 2009

A few months ago I was flattered to be invited to present at the very first edition of “This happened…” outside of London [edit: this is not actually true! sorry for the inaccurate statement, apparently it has also happened in Utrecht]. My presentation was all about my work with the Wii LoopMachine, and you can watch it all right here! Includes bonus LoopMachine improvisation at the end! Thanks to Mike Greer for the video, and to the whole This happened crew for a great night altogether.

Wii LoopMachine + Saxophone

by Yann ~ April 9th, 2009

File this one under “awesome”. Stephen Monslow sent me this video showing him exploring the Wii LoopMachine with the Wiimote attached to his saxophone. Nice idea, and this is apparently just his initial tests for a full-blown SaxLoopMachine performance that is happening soon. He has promised me videos, and you can be sure that I’ll post them here as soon as I see them. Rock on, Stephen.

Whoa, last night was awesome. What a cool venue, with great Polish beer and people from all over the world!

So a big hello to everyone I met last night visiting for the first time! Hello! For those who were interested in the music side, be sure to visit my personal website theamazingrolo.net (check the blog), and for those of you interested in the Wii LoopMachine, well, you’re in the right place! Poke around to watch videos, download software, and learn about how awesome it is.

Update from Warsaw

by Yann ~ March 24th, 2009

The Wii LoopMachine team (that’s me) has landed in Warsaw, courtesy of the British Council! Yesterday I was taken on an epic introduction through the music industry in Poland, which was absolutely incredible. I’ve met tons of amazing people, including my fellow finalists who are all involved in different aspects of the music industry in the UK.

Now I’m sitting in my hotel room practicing for a LoopMachine show that I’ll be giving tonight. I don’t know how private or public it is meant to be, but if anyone is in Warsaw send me an email or post a comment so you can come by and check out the show! If not I’ll try and post pictures and/or movies if at all possible.

Speaking of videos, I’m still waiting for my This happened talk to get posted, I will post it here as soon as it’s available. Thanks to the organizers for the opportunity, it was a fantastic audience! In particular thanks to all those who stayed afterwards for a chat.

This happened…

by Yann ~ March 5th, 2009

I’m very pleased and flattered to say that I’ll be giving a talk and demonstration tonight at the first Edinburgh edition of “This happened”. I’ll be talking about my experiences developing the Wii LoopMachine over the past eighteen months. It’s free, and there are some other really interesting speakers…hope to see some of you there!

Wii LoopMachine @EdTwestival

by Yann ~ February 11th, 2009

Tomorrow night, Thursday the 12th, I’ll be playing a Wii LoopMachine set at the Edinburgh Twestival. It all starts at 7pm at Hawke and Hunter on Picardy Place – should be lots of fun! I’ve been twittering a lot myself lately…if you’ll be there be sure to say hello! Check out the info from the website:

Meet, greet and tweet the Twitterers of Scotland – all for a great cause!
On Feb 12th, Edinburgh is joining over 180 cities around the world and hosting a Twestival (a “Twitter Festival”), donating 100% of money raised to Charity: Water.
Listen to some world class live music, bid for Silverstone Grand Prix tickets and a host of other goodies in the auction, get a chance to win a Vodafone Netbook, crate of Ardbeg whisky or Flip Video Mino in the raffle, and most importantly, have a top night with Scotland’s flourishing Twitter community.
There’ll be live video streaming from other Twestival cities around the UK and beyond, plus a way to fire all your tweets and pictures up on the walls (wifi dependent – fingers crossed). Bring your mobile or laptop and join the thousands of people around the world celebrating on the same day!

LoopMachine is going to Poland

by Yann ~ February 10th, 2009

I’m very pleased to announce that my company Lucky Frame Limited and I have been selected by the British Council as a finalist in the UK Young Music Entrepreneur Awards! You can read my whole application (and see a rather embarrassing picture) here

This means that I get a two week tour of the music industry in Poland. Very exciting! Any LoopMachine users in Poland want to meet up while I’m there?

more abstract experimental music, courtesy of the LoopMachine

by Yann ~ January 9th, 2009

Thanks to Herr Penschuck, who sent me some more experimental music made using the LoopMachine, combined with live instruments (which is something that is very close to my heart)! You can listen and download “Illness Is A-Way” over at archive.org
